blake
fivethirtyeight.com which is the best American politics website in the business, have slashed Clinton's chances of winning from the 86% they were 10 days ago to 71% now, but Trump still has a massive mountain to climb to fluke it on Tuesday. Clinton's still going to win quite easily but not by the absolutely sledgehammer margin that it looked like she might a month ago. But she's still going to get over 300 of the 538. Anna B
I was listening to radio four, it said Trumps main policies, the few that he has, were in relation to reducing immigration and reducing free trade. We have had the immigration debate, but people here welcome free trade, although they want the UK to be a manufacturing nation again. Since we import more than 50% of our goods, an import tax could help the Government to lower VAT. Trump can have as many policies as he likes, but he still has to get them through the senate (or some such?) I doubt other senators will work with him. We will probably have a Corbyn like standoff that will paralyse American politics. Interesting times ahead...

Watched Facing Donald Trump on Natgeo last night. From what I saw of the show (which was reasonably fair) If he gets elected, and it's a very big if, what he says in front of the cameras and what he does behind closed doors will be very different. We have just had the courts say that the Government are not doing enough to prevent premature deaths because of air pollution, I guess we have the same "what they says in front of the cameras and what they do behind closed doors will be very different"
blake
Don't laugh but here in the Philippines I'm watching it TV wise mostly on Fox News. Their coverage is interesting. They've decided to throw their weight behind Trump but they never wanted him to get the nomination. Bill O'Reilly finds it difficult to hide his disdain for Trump and clearly wants the Republicans not to do too badly in the House elections but for Trump to lose even if that means Hillary, who O'Reilly also hates, becomes president. Don't underestimate how much a lot of the American right-wing dislike Trump.
taxman
Do we still have to look forward to months of "hanging chad" debates or have they actually found a 21st century voting system? ---------- Post added 02-11-2016 at 22:20 ---------- Watched Facing Donald Trump on Natgeo last night. From what I saw of the show (which was reasonably fair) If he gets elected, and it's a very big if, what he says in front of the cameras and what he does behind closed doors will be very different. He's set himself up as anti-establishment, anti-Washington, anti-government. A bit like Jeremy Clarkson or Farage, he's one of those people embedded within the establishment, always fights and votes for the establishment, but says outrageous things so they can pretend to be anti-establishment. Hands up anyone who thinks Trump is so anti-establishment to take on Big Oil, the Banks, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Big Business etc etc. He pretends he will, he won't.
