The Consequences of Brexit (part 2)

How about work visas being granted to foreign people, who fit whatever criteria the Government believe is necessary, for the benefit of the UK.

No no no, that makes far too much common sense.

We already have that for non-EU workers and the Tory government has used it to let in a million people in the past 6-7 years.

The numbers coming from non-EU countries to join somebody already here is more than double EU immigration for the same reason and that is a permanent lock into UK society. EU migrants can easily flow back the other way, and often do.

41% of EU immigrants have solid job offers compared to 21% of non-EU immigrants.

In total 72% of EU immigrants have job offers or looking for work. For non-EU immigrants the total is 32%

Where are the workers going to come from?

The UK Government does need to introduce tighter controls on immigration from non EU countries, which should include stopping people coming to

join families etc. The EU has simply got too big now and the net figures are just too high for numerous reasons. Since the EU started letting the Eastern European countries become members, the numbers of immigrants from EU countries has got out of control. Other Remaining EU nations will soon follow the UK's lead and seek to end free movement of people within the EU.

Similar to what you said about the negative EU trade deficit, the UK should be looking to fill more job vacancies from people already here.

Maybe you can't force British people to do jobs they simply don't want even if there was a legion of unemployed people to do them, which there isn't.

It could also be a bad idea to curtail the freedom of British businesses to choose which workers they employ.

but.......

You'll realise it soon enough but what you have been promised is entirely different to the ideology of Davis, Fox etc... They want free movement. They want lots of cheap workers for British businesses. If they can't get them from the EU they'll go elsewhere after (for the businesses they in hock to) nuking British employment law and protections.

They couldn't give a crap about you. They want you to compete with low waged workers in a globalised economy, and they will bring those low waged workers here in droves if they feel like it.

You are the target mate. You are going to be competing at a level you can't imagine now for scraps thrown from the table while the likes of Davis, Fox and the businesses they represent become fantastically rich.

That is the end game of neoliberalism and the political ideology that drives Brexit but you are (and sorry to be so strong about this but it is necessary) simply too blind to see it.

Foreign students should be excluded from government plans to cut net immigration to the UK, former cabinet minister Lord Heseltine has said.(2014)

It was in the news the other week too, I think someone else was supporting the idea.

By hook or by crook, the Tories want more immigrants, even if they have to change the way the figures are worked out.

Ok, your theory is the shortage of workers you mentioned and are worried about are going to come from non EU countries.

Nobody has promised me anything and I don't need to compete with anyone for anything. The UK voted to leave the EU and I beleve the current Government will honour the democratic wishes of the people. Time will tell if the UK is better or worse off as a consequence of the UK leaving the EU.

Non EU immigrants can't claim benefits for 5 years, spousal visas are only given if the UK partner earns over £24k a year...

We do have a shortage of workers in the current setup. Very few long-term unemployed.

Of course the cheaper workers that Fox, Davis and Rees-Mogg want are going to come in increasing numbers from non-EU countries. The Brexit leaders are backing globalisation and that is how it works: powerful migratory flows are a feature of it.

I'm not personally worried about it but I am worried how it will affect the dynamic of the country when the penny drops that migrants coming from eastern europe are replaced with asians and africans. People like me and you will be forced to compete with them. Built on top of the xenophobia and hate that has already built up in the UK that is going to be a toxic mix. People are going to feel duped. More insecure than ever. Poorer than ever. More angry than ever.

Wait and see.

It doesn't change the facts. And the facts are that EU immigrants are far more likely to be here to take firm job offers, or to look for work.

You know it.
