I1L2T3
We have just had another referendum, which was 41 years after the first one and a different answer was given. The Government at the time followed the instructions given as a consequence of the first one, so rightly the current Government intends to follow the instructions of the recent EU referendum, which is how democracy works. So we only get to keep having referendums until you get the result you want. How is that democratic?

Gamston
So if another referendum was called to ratify the terms of leaving you'd be fine with it? It's the UK's Government job to sort out the formalities of leaving the EU. The voters have already given the Government instructions to leave the EU. Everything was made perfectly clear in the Conservative 2015 Election manifesto and the run up to the EU referendum. The only reason you are suggesting another referendum, is in hope the democratic wishes, as a consequence of the EU referendum result are not carried out. You don't seem to have any respect for democracy

But democracy does provide opportunities to put that right. As we shall see. The Conservatives pledged nothing more that an in/out referendum. They also affirmed their commitment to the single market, and to safeguard Britain's interests in the single market.

So... by taking the country out of the single market they are ignoring the demoncratic choice of the electorate who put them in power based on their manifesto... apelike
So... by taking the country out of the single market they are ignoring the demoncratic choice of the electorate who put them in power based on their manifesto... But a political manifesto is like the referendum and not legally binding.
Litotes
But a political manifesto is like the referendum and not legally binding. Ahhh, so they don't have to deliver the manifesto or the result of the referendum?
999tigger
Ahhh, so they don't have to deliver the manifesto or the result of the referendum? What manifesto would that be? Referendums are non binding, but ofc they will follow that by leaving the EU. Nobody has said otherwise. The terms on which we leave are for the government. the terms on which we interact with the EU going forward is for the government.
