ukdobby
TBH I get your point, but there was a great deal bad in those days. Pak bashing, gays being treated as subhuman, outright racialism, domestic violence was dismissed often. Even child abuse wasn't taken that seriously. Look at prisons,we have them locked away and still can't control them as o being so nice to them clearly hasn't worked.
mikem8634
There was a phrase, which I didn't use deliberately, because some people consider it to be a perjorative term and can cause "offence". The word I used, has never been, as far as I am aware, an "offensive" term. In fact there's a shop in Sheffield somewhere called "Pak foods" or something like that. Fair point, and that is pretty much what I thought you'd done. It felt too close for comfort from my point of view, but the rest of your sentiment clearly indicated your positive intentions. For me, Pakistani would have been the most respectful way to put and also avoided possible confusion. As I have said, just an opinion. ---------- Post added 03-11-2016 at 11:52 ---------- Look at prisons,we have them locked away and still can't control them as o being so nice to them clearly hasn't worked. Are you suggesting that in order to tackle crime we should allow the police to behave criminally? Do you not think that the major institutions of a civilised society should strive to be better than that society's criminal element? So how do you think we should treat prisoners to stop them behaving in the prisons as they are today.
mikem8634
So how do you think we should treat prisoners to stop them behaving in the prisons as they are today. That is way too off-topic to go into in any depth. But the on-topic point would be certainly not by making the police's behaviour more like the behaviour of violent criminals. Has any good in the world ever come from placing anybody above the law?
Harrystottle
Nobody was killed at Orgreave. Nobody was even convicted. The judge threw the cases of riot out, quite correctly because evidence from SYP could not be relied upon. Subsequently compensation was paid to some of the pickets. So far so good. But excessive force was used by the police, evidence was manufactured; and those responsible for that were never brought to book and they should have been. Whether that can even be done now, thirty two years after Orgreave, I don't know.
Vaati
Removed a fair number of posts for bickering and brining up Hillsborough. Hillsborough has nothing to do with this inquiry. Nor is taking pot shot at Liverpool fans etc. Stay on topic and stop the bickering.
