tinfoilhat
It was in response to Randy's comment. Some people don't know the broadcast was in the wrong order that's all. I'm not having a pop at the Beeb as being an instrument of Thatcher's state or anything mate I wouldn't say they were - just another example of the poor standard of journalism in this country. mikem8634
A few years ago this thread would have been about Hillsborough, many similar things were said. Probably even by some of the same people. Now it is not. That is why there should be an open inquiry.
tinfoilhat
The Beeb are better than most. Absolutely, but a long way from perfect when it suits them. Also worth considering what the media was like in the 80s. Rabid doesn't do it justice.
geared
Because it smacks of a cover up if they told officers what to put, if there was nothing to hide why not let the officers write their statement in their own words? So what? It's well known the police were pretty bent back then. No-one was prosecuted, compensation was paid out a long time ago. Alot of the officers are either dead or retired so it's highly unlikely you'll get enough real evidence to properly prove what went on, and even then no-one is going to be surprised at the outcome. It won't change the way the police currently work You can't prosecute anyone for their actions ---------- Post added 31-10-2016 at 16:55 ---------- A few years ago this thread would have been about Hillsborough, many similar things were said. What because 96 people lost their lives, many families were torn apart and the police refused to accept the blame?? oh wait, thats not what happened at all is it?? No, not because of that. Because many refused to consider that there may have been institutional wrongdoing until it was laid before them and they could no longer deny it. Who though? All the people involved are long since retired and anyone there now is well aware of how bent the force was back then.
hobinfoot
I know men on both sides and they are not shrinking violets. They turned up that day expecting a scrap and that's what they got and to be fair to them both neither of them has ever complained.
geared
Maybe because a lot of them lost their jobs? That had little to do with the riot, they were loosing their jobs because the government was closing the mines. The government had been closing mines for decades. The government had been closing mines for decades. I know. The question was why do miner's continue to whine. Because a lot of them lost their jobs and don't think it was fair.
