Its not political as you claim, it is a charitable icon, probably one of the most notable in the British Commonwealth. In fact, if you live in the UK and have done for a long time, you may live close to relatives of men or women that have died in the course of their duty, and their relatives are the recipient of charity from Poppy sale proceeds. Probably young children more often than not. I am not trying to get you to change your mind, just pointing out that you are swimming upstream against the current!
