FIFA say the poppy is a political symbol.

Recommended Posts

How pathetic that FIFA say that national teams cannot wear the poppy on their shirts as they class it as a political symbol. They want to think, if it wasn't for all the people that gave their lives for world peace there might never have been a corrupt organisation called FIFA.

Probably because no one has slipped them a brown envelope stuffed with cash .

I think you've got a point. But if we're going down that road, is a flag not a political symbol? How many parties, across the globe use the flag as a political symbol?

Very good point.

Hmmm. But...to be annoying* our badge is 3 Lions not the flag of England....

(*call me annoying all the time Penny, Dobby etc, I could care less what you think)

So could they wear black armbands ? for example.

I think with all the burning and stuff we've seen over the recent years and constant (real or not) accusations about people wanting to ban the poppy this that and the other, FIFA are probably just trying to keep it easy going.

Although England and Scotland will both want to have them and show, so who really gives a balls?

the players who want to should wear these no matter what!! what are FIFA going to do call the game off and p off the tv companies?? think not

Playing football should not involve wearing anything other than the approved kit.
