British Gymnast Banned For "Mocking" Religion

Recommended Posts

Exactly. The poppy example is not comparing like to like at all really - as far as I am aware Louis Smith didn't burn anything..

The poppy is also not a religious symbol so I'm not sure what relevance it has.

The poppy is also in remembrance of Muslims that died during the war.

He probably wouldn't get an inbox of death threats regardless of what people thought of him.

He would and you know it.

What would people think if a video of say Amir Khan the Muslm boxer emerged where he was taking the **** out of Christians or burning a poppy at a private party?

Take a look on social media at what the poor lad has to deal with "just" for being a Muslim, he would be blasted.

Id laugh at a video of him ridiculing Christians because i believe ALL religion is pathetic and is fair game to be ridiculed and insulted.

If he was wearing a poppy , thats a different kettle of fish ,as the poppy isnt owt to do with religion , its to remember our brave war hero`s.

mafya surely we can agree that Islam as a whole has a harder time tolerating criticism that other creeds. You can surely concede this without abandoning your perfectly reasonable defence of Islam as a lifestyle overall.

Muslims are not tolerant when it comes to mocking Islam I agree but the point I'm trying to make is that if the boot was on the other foot and someone like Amir Khan was doing the mocking then im sure he would be getting stick for it..

They really need to lighten up then. Religions are nothing more than brain washing cults , and should be treated as such .

Yes but it's a matter of degrees. Qualitatively the reaction would be similar. Quantitatively the scale is completely different.

Olympic silver medallist Louis Smith has been banned for two months for mocking Islam.

Now , it dosnt matter what religion he mocked , the issue here is why he was banned at all. We are on a very slippery slope if people cannot mock religion . This sets a very dangerous precedent . For me , religion - ALL RELIGION should be fair game to be mocked and ridiculed, it should not be protected from ridicule .

This story is in all the papers ,so not just a Daily Mail story.

Hello kate havent seen you for a while hope things are ok.

As fopr your post, then people are forgetting its to do with his voluntary membership of British Gymnastics and their equivalence of bringing the sport into disrepute. Thats a code he signed up to before he joined and which he is obliged to keep to whilst he decideds he wishes to remain a member. If you break the rules, then you get sanctioned. If you dont respect the rules then don't join (this is an organisation that has given him a living and career).
