Showing ID to get medical treatment

Recommended Posts

If it costs more than it saves, then it's a stupid thing to do (I don't think it will though).

they said that about foreign trucks using UK roads, UK trucks have paid a Levey for years to drive on the continent. 2014 we started charge foreign trucks, 2014 to 2015 £44 million went to the treasury.

The difficulty with any system is with the cases that are a bit awkward.

Lots of young people live with their parents, in whose name the utility bills will be. They may not be able to drive and may not have a passport. The idea that they may be refused treatment until they have acquired a driving license or whatever is risible.

People with no fixed abode will find themselves excluded.

Most people cannot detect a forged passport - ID document checking is actually a skilled job that would need to be carried out by a central office not care givers (if it is to be carried out well).

People who do not have the necessary documents will borrow from others. Utility bills don't have photos on them...

The policy needs thinking through properly if it is to achieve what it sets out to.

Who said that it would cost more to do than it would generate?

Most young people will be registered with a GP and have an NHS number. So what's the difficulty?

They'll either be at the hospital because they've been referred (in which case their ID is already established). Or they are presenting at A&E.

There are many more ways of establishing identity than passport or driving license. Name, address and NHS number should be sufficient tbh...

you were saying it would not be cost effective, the comparison i gave has the similar factors , the main one controlled point of entry either it be a port or a hospital door

It's a conditional statement, it started with an IF. It wasn't some kind of trick...

So did someone claim that this would cost more to implement than it would make?

Although it does neatly skip around the issues we had with the ID card scheme.

Instead it moves to "you want access to medical treatment and such? Get yourself some valid ID"
