Gamston
What about car-lined streets where there are few passing points? It would be difficult to navigate them without flashing. I flash to signal to the car coming the other way that I will remain stationary so they can pass. It's like everything in life, common sense should be used when flashing

tinfoilhat
That's so we can tell other driver they have totally cleared us ,if you carry a moffet you have to be aware when you pull back in I know........ ---------- Post added 03-12-2016 at 11:00 ---------- It's done so the overtaking lorry knows when they've cleared the other vehicle and it's safe to pull back in. I know......that's the point I was making really.
martin6
Right it wrong we are all accustomed to flashing being a signal the other driver is giving way, more so at this time of year. During the lighter months many drivers will use hand gestures to signal the same and a hand signal back to show gratification.
Bodie
I know......that's the point I was making really. I know it helps sometimes, especially at night and in bad weather but we should really know the length of our trailers
Love2print
It can cause confusion. For example some drivers will flash to let a pedestrian know that they are letting them cross. On one occasion this happened they weren't letting me know they were waiting for me but was letting another car past but it wasn't obvious. Sometimes it's best not to flash because other drivers and pedestrians get the wrong end of the stick.
Cyclone
In light of this thread, I didn't bother to flash the person last night doing 45 mph in the right hand lane of the A57 here. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.3610981,-1.2581116,3a,75y,289.15h,72.61t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sIoEnepohDTMnzmfoY09DeQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 It was obviously someone with a similar mindset to Justin, they took the right hand lane from the roundabout (nothing on the left). I undertook them after a few hundred metres, but I could still see them in the right hand lane by the time I reached the motorway junction. Presumably they were going north on the motorway and didn't want to have change lanes again, with it being so dangerous.
