Time to face up to the truth of religion?

Recommended Posts

Not to be pedantic but God created Mankind in his own image, not life.

Genesis 1:27

But that is just one of the Bible quotes, in Genesis 1:26 it states: “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.. which is plural so it must mean that there were other Gods around at the time. If he did create man in his own image then that must also mean that God is flawed and not perfect which sort of contradicts his supremeness.

as this happens just after creating the world then maybe God feels it would be appropriate to use the majestic plural

How did someone manage to overhear him and then 400 years later right down in a book? Why can't people overhear him now?

This is a quote from Genesis right, so why is so much of it demonstrably nonsense?

How can anyone take this fairytale seriously?

All important questions.

In answer to the thread title.

Some people have a belief in God others do not.

No amount of discussion on here will change that view.

Why not? People lose their faith all the time due to a little critical thinking and rational thought, discussion can sometimes stimulate that.

However, I don't think that's the point of this thread.

We could take religion away and belief in gods but people will always be susceptible to having irrational and ridiculous beliefs, no matter how much evidence is stacked against them or the lack of evidence in their favour.

Conspiracy fans are a good example of this, they seem to yearn for something unseen to be happening that only they are aware of - the true believers.

I think you'll find that you are being hateful and bullying now

I don't hate anyone, so that's definitely not true.

I don't really see how that's bullying either. Asking difficult questions, and the last one is only half serious/half sarcasm. But sarcasm isn't bullying either.

Of the 3 questions, what don't you like? The bible WAS written approximately 400 AD, so how did someone write down the literal words of God?

It is a quote from Genesis and much of Genesis is demonstrably nonsense isn't it?

Which lead to the 3rd question, which is an expression of disbelief that any rational adult can actually believe it. Perhaps you're not as surprised as I am though.

I think that was a sarcasm emoticon.
