tinfoilhat
It's true the Saudis are up to god knows what with god knows who but they buy an awful lot of weapons from us. £6.2bn according to the Indy. That's going to translate into a lot of skilled jobs and tax receipts to U.K. Plc. We aren't pulling the trigger and if we didn't sell to them the Americans would (and do) or the Russians would sell them random tat that would likely be more indiscriminate. 999tigger
they are a despotic regime Woohhooo how many despots are there in the world. Are you suggesting we refuse to deal with them? Will you be happy to pay the extra tax? ---------- Post added 08-12-2016 at 21:20 ---------- It's true the Saudis are up to god knows what with god knows who but they buy an awful lot of weapons from us. £6.2bn according to the Indy. The Al Yamama contract has been worth over 43 billion and is estimated to eb worth at least that again. BAE have 4000+ employees over there. sgtkate
Boris is right in his view, however, as effectively the highest diplomat in the country he really needs to learn to keep his mouth shut about his own personal opinion as it holds no weight. He represents the government and country and seriously needs to take note of that. I'd love for us to stop dealing with the Saudis or any despots to be honest, but to have a cowboy foreign secretary announce his personal views about them isn't going to fix anything except now require the PM to likely publically apologise or chastise him for the views making us look even more stupid. This isn't the way to go about anything and achieves nothing. Again.

tzijlstra
It is not very often that I agree on any thing that Boris Johnson spouts, but his recent outburst saying that Saudi Arabia is responsible for much of the troubles in the middle east is bang on. These so called friends of our Country who are fawned over by our Royals and many in Government are the World's biggest gangsters who treat even there own people with disdain especially the women in their Country. It is not often that I agree with you, but we agree on this one wholeheartedly.

Margarita Ma
Or rather he is a clown and it brings into question whether he should be foreign secretary at all. If you want to lose allies and with it the associated jobs, then the UK will be in a fine mess with no friends. Agree with the first sentence. as for the second. Ploughshares to that. The Nazis were all pointing fingers after WW11. and saying "If I hadn't done it someone else would have." Sometimes you just have to stand up and be counted.
