El Cid
Seems crazy to me. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38319283 Less than half of new recruits have a degree now, why make it difficult for the forces? No British force now requires its recruits to be of any minimum height. That is news to me! So we could end up with short intellectual police officers
Gamston
I thought they already had Police training centres. It's probably against the law now, to discriminate against short people applying to join the Police force.
harvey19
Will this ensure those doing graffiti or tagging are more likely to get caught ?
Gamston
Will this ensure those doing graffiti or tagging are more likely to get caught ? I doubt it, but the new Police with degrees, will have a better understanding of the psychological of the perpetrators .

What organisations are exempt from equality laws? ---------- Post added 15-12-2016 at 11:08 ---------- I doubt it, but the new Police with degrees, will have a better understanding of the psychological of the perpetrators . Just give them a fixed penalty notice.

'Prospective officers can either complete a three-year "degree apprenticeship", a postgraduate conversion course or a degree.' You can learn on the job instead. El Cid
Do you actually read the articles you link to? 'Prospective officers can either complete a three-year "degree apprenticeship", a postgraduate conversion course or a degree.' You can learn on the job instead. Retired police officer Norman Brennan, who served 31 years in London and now campaigns for police protection, said degrees came "at the bottom of the priority list" for police. He said: "The only degree a police officer needs is a degree of common sense - they'll learn on the job. Perhaps doing a degree at uni, is a way of the tax payer funding their training, instead of the police force?
monkey104
Police officers are supposed to represent a cross section of the public. If they are now only going to accept people with a degree or the ability to study for a degree whilst in the job what section of the public will be excluded? If you feel to obtain a degree whilst in the job, do you get the push? We need officers with common sense not a degree.
harvey19
I doubt it, but the new Police with degrees, will have a better understanding of the psychological of the perpetrators . But I just want them caught and stopped doing their criminal damage which has made mess of the city. I want a police officer to able to pass an appropriate entrance exam, have experience of life, have common sense, and the ability to speak to people to find out who is doing what. As in the forces if a person wants to advance or move into a specialist area they must prove themselves suitable and have gained the necessary qualifications to undergo training.
