Is everyone supporting the train drivers?

The political establishment seems to be up in arms over a few strikes. Like Brexit, they can't stand the idea of people voting for something and getting their own way.

What a lot of people object to is trouble causing unions trying to hold employers to ransom.

If an employee dosnt like the terms and conditions of their employment , they are free to find another job.

Its time unions were outlawed permanently .

The employers are changing the terms, everything was ok before.

What's happening is that people are starting to reject the idea that they should just accept years more without pay rises or accept being told to pretend that they are self employed and thus losing out on paid holiday and sick pay. The BA cabin crew haven't had a pay rise for 6 years. My Hermes threatens workers with loss of shifts if they don't work when they are told, then claims the workers are self employed with freedom over when they work. These are the people who have been left behind by liberal economics and the unions, despite the dinosaur tag lazily given them by right wingers, have adapted well to the new economy and have been busy organising to help people get their basic rights to a decent wage and conditions.

The political establishment and employers who only care about shareholder value are appalled; we were supposed to take this lying down!

If you work for a private company, their number one priority is making profit, and rightly so . Employers arnt there to spread their wealth around.

There are lots of reason why workers are unhappy in their work, an employer will have a successful business if they understand this and try to keep the workforce happy.

Well then she was illegally drunk on top of her taking drugs.

Tragic accident. A young life wasted. MAY (debatable) have been prevented. The staff member said that he thought she was moving away when he was looking. Its two versions of a single tragic event. She was leaning against/she was walking away.

HOWEVER, why should this man have his life and career ruined. He clearly made a mistake and has to be penalised. However, what's with all the finger pointing and blame passing. Where was SHE taking responsibility for her own behaviour and safety. Where was the PARENTS taking responsibility for the illegal and stupid actions of their offspring. Where were he so called FRIENDS taking control and looking after their clearly incapable companion.

No mention of that when they are bleating on to the press. That's what I find disgusting.

Its always someone else's fault these days.

Seem like a good post to my way of thinking. Heavily drunk and doped up on drugs, but someone else is guilty of her demise.

He lost his his job and his freedom because he catastrophically failed at his job and directly casued the death of somebody.

It doesn't matter if the girl was drunk. He was in charge of safety on that platform. The girl who died was 16, and 16 year olds make mistakes.

Yet, you seem to be arguing that it was ok for somebody with a responsibility for public safety to make mistakes, but not the public they are supposed to be looking after. That is not how it works. The guard will have known that after 20 years in the job.

The family called it correctly. The guard failed in his duty, caused a death, deserved to be sacked and deserved to be jailed.

Maybe you can leave the family a message on Georgia's tribute page. Troll there instead.

It's a priority to make profit, and most companies they approach that in a responsible way.

When companies start to behave irresponsibly and government fails to keep them in check then workers start organising to fill the vacuum the government creates.

Same process been happening for 200 years over and over again. It should not come as a surprise when this happens.
