lasutd
I recently bought a 25 pound gift card in a local beauty shop. I paid in cash and when I asked for a receipt was told they don't give receipts for cash, only card transactions. Is this legal?
ivan edake
Don't know whether it's legal or not but I always ask for a receipt and in these circumstances I would have gone elsewhere.
Obelix
The only time you can legally insist on a recipet in the UK is when you are paying for VAT liable goods and you yourself are a VAT registered entity. They can refuse but as others have said I'd go elsewhere and suspect something amiss is going on.
Gamston
It does seem strange that the OP couldn't get a receipt for purchasing a gift card. At the end of the day a cash purchase of a gift card is the same as paying for goods by cash and any reputable business, should offer a receipt for both their own protection and the customer. It goes without saying a gift voucher is worthless, if the shop goes bust.
