hush
I suppose the problem for Putin is Russia no longer has the non nuclear clout of the Soviet Union. Despite having a population twice that of the UK the GDP of Russia is less than ours. Compared to the spending power of the USA they are a dwarf. The UK went through a similar phase in the last century as we came to terms with our diminishing status as a military power. Without pretending they are prepared to become involved in nuclear conflic they lack the power to intimidate in the way the Soviet Union did. A situation which will only increase as their military hardware needs updating.
