kidneystone
Anyone know how to tax a vehicle using the V5C/2 slip off the log book. My son bought a van today and we are unable to tax it using the V5C/2 slip because the website is asking for the 12 digit number printed on the slip. The slip only has a 11 digit number which we have tried without success.
Dardandec
If its the old style blue/green registration document the reference number won't work and will have to be taxed at the post office. The blue/green registration document's were replaced by the red ones a few year's ago due to some sort of counterfeit compromise. Unfortunately, some of them are still in use. Dardandec
The same happened to us a couple of years ago, and we ended up stuck in Manchester with an untaxed vehicle Very luckily for us there was a post office nearby that was open. More "HERE" Edited January 3, 2017 by Dardandec Added Link
Obelix
The same happened to us a couple of years ago, and we ended up stuck in Manchester with an untaxed vehicle Very luckily for us there was a post office nearby that was open. More "HERE" You wont get anywhere with the post office either since the tax discs stopped being issued. They cant do anything with an 11-digit number - nor can DVLA. Your only options are 1. apply for a new V5 - which is a 6 week wait until DVLA write to the old keeper and check it was transferred 2. get the old keeper to pony up the red V5 they were sent 3. get the OLD keeper at the OLD address to apply for a V5 - which is faster, and then you can use the 12 digit code at the post office or online. BUT do NOT do this if the old keeper has sent off the old paper V5 with the new details on. It goes horribly wrong if that happens as they assume someones gaming the system and it gets.... messy. kidneystone
I phoned the DVLA this morning. They say they can't tax it over the phone or on the internet. The lady on the phone said I have to take the V5C/2 slip to the post office along with the MOT certificate so they can scan it
geared
How long had the previous owner had the van?? Those old style V5's were made redundant years ago, the shouldn't still be in use.

The guy had had the van from new (2007). Sorted the tax out at the post office.
Dardandec
You wont get anywhere with the post office Funny that because when we were stuck in Manchester we taxed it at a post office. since the tax discs stopped being issued. What's that got to do with anything? We taxed ours post tax disc abolition. Have you got a link to this information because it couldn't be more wrong. Those old style V5's were made redundant years ago, the shouldn't still be in use. That's the thing though. a lot of them are still in use and people don't realise until they buy a car and try to tax it online. The guy had had the van from new (2007). Sorted the tax out at the post office. Cool.
Obelix
Funny that because when we were stuck in Manchester we taxed it at a post office. Funny that because when I was stuck on York I couldn't tax it at the post office What's that got to do with anything? We taxed ours post tax disc abolition. Whats that got to do with anything. I couldn't tax mine post disc abolition. Have you got a link to this information because it couldn't be more wrong. Have you got a link to yours - and were you also changing keepers at the same time? That's the thing though. a lot of them are still in use and people don't realise until they buy a car and try to tax it online. It's aggravating to be sure.
