Like you LOOB, on the one hand I am concerned about the Queen having to receive someone like Trump in an official capacity. Make it a normal visit where he just meets politicos such as PM May & "Bobo the clown ?" But the Queen has politely and smoothly received unsavory people many times before at the behest of the government.

On the other hand Brexit is on its way and the UK needs to start gathering individual states to strike trade deals with. None better than the USA to start, and this will work as an example as to UKs intent & direction, and stroke the worlds largest ego. So if a visit to Buckingham Palace is part of the price, the Queen, being the old tried and true campaigner that she is, will buy in for the team.

Finally, immigration is the lifeblood of the USA and has been so since day one. Trump and his Breitbart donors and associates may only be able to able to slow down the influx of immigrants. On this issue, he faces the courts and the majority of decent US citizens that can see through the deception plan already.

Trump has said that the best time to negotiate a deal is when the other side are desperate. Negotiating a trade deal with the US just after brexit and whilst Trump with his "America first" attitude in charge is not the best time.

it might not be the best time but it is the timeframe we have to work with. Trump will want to do a deal, as the UK will, because he is keen to see major economies leave the EU and operate independently.

He's keen to see countries leave the EU, and abandoned the Trans-Pacific Partnership, because it's much harder for the US to get its way when it's negotiating trade deals with large groups of other countries (like the EU) rather than just an individual, by comparison, small country. This is about getting a better deal for the US (and consequently worse deal for us) than he would have got had we stayed in a large group.

I agree the timing is not perfect but it is what it is. If the UK is leaving the EU what alternative do you suggest ? The UK now has to make the best of it and get on with various one on one trade deals.

The UK knows what the trade terms are between the USA and EU. The UK will start with requesting the same terms. The US may agree to show others what they can expect.

The BBC is our national broadcaster. It's not ITV or Channel 4 or the Guardian.

This isn't quite a diplomatic slap across the face, still only more of an insult (yes, Trump supporters, you should see it as such)...but should certainly be considered bad enough to downgrade Trump's State visit to a normal visit as a matter of principle, if not cancel it outright until the insult is remedied.

I'd see May & Johnson failing to do that, as a clear further sign of early subservience.

"Special relationship"? You've just witnessed its extent.

It's a worry. This is a state funded broadcaster that's been kicked out - I'm presuming sky news and anything else associated with murdoch are fine? I'm hoping May might have a word - this isn't on.

Murdochs minions may be ok until they criticize Trump. When and if they do, they will become part of the "Fake News" group that Trump has dreamt up. Just like Adolph, Benito, Uncle Joe , Mao, Lon Nol, Mugabe etc and other regimes did.

Item one on the agenda is to undermine/eliminate all independent new agencies. Item two is to undermine or eliminate all government institutions so all authority moves into one area, the one controlled exclusively by the "Chairman."

Its an old playbook but one that is easy to follow.

Don't be in a rush to get a trade deal. The danger is the 3 brexiteers will be so keen to get a trade deal quickly, so they can claim brexit is a success, that they'll agree to a poorer deal than we could otherwise get. It will be better to spend longer negotiating, preferably until there's a less isolationist/protectionish POTUS, so we can get a better deal.
