unbeliever
i would say someone with socialist values, someone that wants to keep the nhs, someone who wants to nationalise the railways, as well as any other service that puts profits before the customers/consumers, someone who wants the multinational companies to pay their tax and wants a fair and equal society. how would you describe the definition of being left? You're describing a statist. What if that person also wants women to stay home and make babies, and would see abortion banned and homosexuals imprisoned. unbeliever
how would you describe the definition of being left? I wouldn't. I have entire threads dedicated to the uselessness of this terminology. People are more complicated. Are you sure about your definition? I'm pretty sure it's a match for the BNP, and I know that's not what you intended. You haven't answered my question. blake
A socially conservative, protectionist statist. Hard to pigeon hole in right/left terms. Best not to try. he's not even socially conservative. The abortion thing, is only what other Republican presidents always do as soon as they come and which he had to do as well to keep the boys on his own side behind him and in the past, he has said he doesn't care about abortion. He's never said anything critical about gay or LBGT rights, gay marriage etc. He's twice divorced, when only one of the previous 44 presidents has even been divorced once and that was about 35 years before he ran for president, not about 10. Trump is not only not fiscally conservative. He's not socially conservative either.
Mister M
I wouldn't. I have entire threads dedicated to the uselessness of this terminology. People are more complicated. Are you sure about your definition? I'm pretty sure it's a match for the BNP, and I know that's not what you intended. You haven't answered my question. I remember contributing to those threads, and I think you're spot on - people are much more complicated than pigeon holing allows....Although there are themes which are common to different political ideologies. unbeliever
The US debt currently stands at $20-25 trillion depending on whether you count the imaginary QE debt. That's near enough 100% of GDP. Trump is likely at add around $1 trillion per year. Now a Keynesian will tell you that spending can create growth, but it would have to create 5% growth to be self-funding and that seems implausible in the extreme. Futures Red
Yes he'll last the full term, possibly be re-elected. Although I don't agree with most of his ideology, he's selling himself based on looking after American interests. In American eyes he'll either be the American dream or a disaster.
