Does anyone know the 'best' way to send money to South Africa?

You're not about to be ripped off by one of those Facebook con's are you??

Where someone's account gets hijacked and posts asking for emergency money.

Nooooo....I'm a bit long in the tooth to fall for that sort of nonsense...

It won't even be my money. Partner's daughter lives there, and she wants to send her some money. It just seems to be a bit problematic, not to say ruddy expensive!

Wondered who would be the first to suggest Western Union :D

Moneygram is a much safer way of doing it, IMO. And also costs less than a tenner, as already stated.

Well....I wouldn't use Western Union myself as you hear such horror stories, and if I'm not mistaken, it's the preferred method of scamming money, as the payee is pretty much untraceable.

Ive used moneygram from time to time. On some banking apps you can send money directly to one account to another (with limits) on your phone - will that work internationally for a small(ish) amount?

I think the person who pointed out the scam thing was referring to the con where someone who purports to be a friend or relative in trouble abroad sends an email asking for help. As long as the money has not been solicited sending should be OK. But does the recipient have to have a Western Union Account or pay a fee? Just a couple of thoughts.

The Internet banking thing has already been covered if you read the thread...
