truman
Alcohol is lethal, ask anyone who has almost died from its effects. So is water...
Cyclone
The alcohol-related death rate was 13.3 per 100,000 population in 2007; which is similar to the number of deaths caused by breast cancer. Okay, but that doesn't answer the question. Where does the recommended number of units come from... ---------- Post added 13-02-2017 at 16:57 ---------- Yes there are some benefits, but alcohol is still a drug that can result in death. Do the benefits outweigh the negatives? So is water. And pretty much everything else in the world. Many vitamins and minerals will kill you in excess, or kill you if you don't have enough... The fact that something is dangerous IN EXCESS doesn't mean that something is dangerous per se.

You are discussing this topic, as if you are in denial, you should speak to someone from the AA. Ask them if alcohol is dangerous.
Robin-H
You are discussing this topic, as if you are in denial, you should speak to someone from the AA. Ask them if alcohol is dangerous. I'm genuinely confused that people do not seem to be able to grasp the concept that alcohol is good for you in moderation and bad for you in excess. That is also true of many many things. It's really not that difficult a concept to understand.

LeMaquis
.My view is drink in moderation is beneficial to many people but saying that have a walk on west st later tonight, few will be moderates. The worst drunks on West Street are not evening drinkers but all-day drinkers. They drink on the street rather than in bars. Some are banned from the pubs and bars and anyway can drink more cheaply from supermarkets and off-licences.

You seem to be in denial that it's possible to consume alcohol without any long term problems like most users of alcohol in fact manage to do... Yes it can cause problems. So can excessive consumption of cream cakes as any tubby individual will also tell you. Doesnt mean that everyone has such problems.
