blackydog
Just looking out of the kitchen window this morning and saw a bird perched on our hedge. Approx magpie sized with the usual brown feathers but a golden coloured chest, any ideas?

Very similar to a Magpie and another members of the crow family, jays common in Sheffield gardens near woodlands.
Phili Buster
I was a bit sceptical myself, must admit. Was basing my idea upon this https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/bird-and-wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/s/sparrowhawk/identification.aspx where it says "Adult male sparrowhawks have orange breasts ...". Hopefully someone with more knowledge will help out

Seen jays around here before, this was nothing like it and definitely a bird of prey.
tzijlstra
May have been Sparrowhawk Yep, most likely candidate. Depending on the time of year and age they change the colour of their chest feathers. Have a look through these to see if it fits.

cgksheff
The bird most associated with goldchests would be a pirate's parrot. My money would be on a peregrine or kestrel and feather colours can vary and look different in different lights. The recent winds could have blown something more exotic off course. Can you show us an image that illustrates the colour you are talking about? Doesn't have to be a bird.
