mossdog
I have in my possession a solid silver GeorgeII two handled cup made in 1750 by Isacc Cookson of Newcastle. The engraving on the cup says "Champion for Pigeon Shooters" given by Jarvis Collier, Newhall, Sheffield, 24th of February 1874. It is fantastically engraved with scenes of live pigeon shooting (now banned of course),the pigeons released from a trap as in clay pigeon shooting. I believe Jarvis Collier was Landlord of the Newhall Street Tavern at that period which was sited around Newhall Gardends, Sanderson Street, Brightside Lane Attercliffe! As this is a bit of old Sheffield,I wonder if there are any distant relations on here or anyone who has further information of Jarvis Collier.
