Bishop of Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Fair enough. (1) I think we have lost the opportunity to have a radical, dynamic pastoral leader for Sheffield, in the tradition of Bishop Leslie Hunter, if anyone remembers him? (2) Philip North is deeply loved in the Diocese of Blackburn by male and female, clergy and laity alike. (3) Richard Chartres has Been Bishop of London for many years and is of the same tradition as Philip. Other bishops in London ordain women. The CofE has lived with that "creative tension" ever since women were first ordained. It could have been the same here, as Peter Burrows at Doncaster will ordain women. (4) In the rush to criticise, led by the Percys (now Oxford, but, let's not forget, formerly of Holy Trinity Millhouses) Sheffield has dropped the ball. Last straw for Philip was probably the "open letter" form Louise Haigh (has she even made it onto Corbyn's dwindling front bench yet?) (5) Also, I think that there has been a deafening silence from the Dean and Chapter of Sheffield Cathedral on this.

Agree with the above. Seems like misogyny but of course these folk who oppose the female priesthood are usually adept at cherry picking and quoting some obscure passage from the Bible to substantiate their view. Some people would struggle to think of a good reason for supporting an organisation that does not practise equality.
