Guest makapaka
Oh dear, not one but two non forum rule breaking posts deleted. Oh well. I noticed that. Oddly the ops post remains, when it was they who started calling people ignorant. Yet other people's opinions are deleted. Why is that mods? dutch
When someone turns down something for a certain reason they think is important to them it says more about them than the actual excuse they used to step down. I think his stepping down is due to the fact he doesn't understand woman and has a deep fear inside. If it is because of women in the church it will have little to do with religious insight, understanding. Every man comes from a woman, even he does, he did not get born from a test-tube. God is one, all, and bible talks about equality, so from where he gets these concerns that woman cannot be equal to him? Especially when he steps down it says more about him and what goes on in his mind than the actual church.
apelike
Basically he and many other male Bishops are scared that they may be made redundant by women taking over their jobs.
RootsBooster
Well, the Bible forbids women from teaching or even talking in Church, so technically a woman Bishop would be blasphemous. It's the same dilemma that occurs in my most religions, you can either follow the holy texts (which are usually mysoginistic, prejudiced and often just nasty) or you can ignore the bits you don't like but you couldn't really call yourself a true believer. dutch
Religion creates lots of fear pain war and misery. Bishop Philip North attitude towards woman is a good example of this. If P north were happy forgiving and joyful full of love, like Jesus most likely was in his real life he would have never wasted his time on these political church issues. If he thinks the real issue is for men to stay dominant and woman to be inferior it is only better for people like that to stop telling others they have found the way to the divine. He did the right thing, people should step down from higher positions to stop spreading old fashioned out of balance unreligious statements. If he wants to reach to heaven and find god while telling woman they are not worthy of that good luck to him. Most religions often attract the craziest of people. max
Jesus was followed by a prostitute, Mary Magdalene. I think you'll find Jesus was followed by Muhammed.
