steve68
Almost six years after his arrest, Lang is still waiting for an apology from South Yorkshire police. Sheffield man comes forward with his story. https://www.buzzfeed.com/matthewchampion/this-mans-life-was-destroyed-by-a-police-typo?utm_term=.epnwpE1Nl#.ou325M1xG £60,000 compensation seems very little the massive losses he suffered. Eccy Beach
Heart goes out to this guy, and SYP clearly have some answers to provide but Herts police also culpable in this.
dutch
Expensive typo. Biggest problem is SYP often behave like they know it all and like they won the case prior to any proper investigation. In meanwhile it takes these bozo investigators years to figure out a little typo was made by themselves.
arrowhead
a life destroyed due to police mistakes and incompetence. But will anyone truly pay for it, i doubt it. Apart from the innocent victim of course. The police officers involved can still look forward to their golden pensions.
steve68
Too many instances of false allegations not being dealt with SYP had a duty to check information handed over to them, wether it's from across the forces or from the public. ---------- Post added 17-03-2017 at 09:07 ---------- Expensive typo. geared
They raided his house on extremely flimsy information to start off with, just an IP address?? You could piggyback on your neighbours WiFi making it seem like they were the ones doing it all. They should have realised the mistake immediately, having drawn it out this long is total incompetence.
Hogg
Poor bloke. SYP are notoriously terrible. He should have been awarded ten times the amount of compensation.
WarPig
I think it should have been more, given the damage it has clearly done to someone's life. He should have been awarded ten times the amount of compensation. Why? He settled for that amount out of court. If he had wanted more he could have pursued it further and probably got a lot more. Seems he was happy to accept the settlement, otherwise he wouldn't have accepted it surely?
sgtkate
Sounds to me like SYP did nothing wrong and the error was solely down to Herts? I aslo agree the guy should have got considerably more than he did, Warpig perhaps after such horrendous trauma he didn't want to enter another courtroom so just accepted any offer to end the ordeal? monkey104
I think the £60,000 was the apology.
