Why does my dentist need to see me every 3 months?

Recommended Posts

My dentist for some reason has changed my appointments from every 6 months to every 3 months.

These are just for regular check ups.

Is it just to increase business, or is it a way of extracting more money from the NHS.

More likely it's because you don't look after your teeth properly and they want to check them more often to spot issues early on.

It's not to make money. NHS dentists make very little money from you (even less since April 1st), according to my NHS dentist friend.

My wife's former private dentist wanted to see her every three months with no apparent reason. That probably was a money thing though.

You could see a hygienist instead, at a cost of around £40, I went through that phase myself.

Eat more healthy food, cut down on snacks and brush your teeth better.

Not so sure about that. My dentist also change my appointments a few years ago from 6 months down to 3 months. In all that time I have never had any work done and only a quick check-up with scale and polish. My daughter-in-law has had the same happen at the same surgery.

I havnt had any recent treatment for fillings etc, but still suffer from gum disease.

My dentist wants me to go every 6 month and there is nothing wrong with my teeth or gums - really I just think it is for the extra money. I don't mind paying but I have better things to do with my time than sitting in a dentist's chair.
