Be prepared for a shock - No triple lock = No vote.

Retirement and state pensions as they stand will simply become unaffordable as the population pyramid becomes top heavy. There are simply more older people and they are living longer. Arguments about how hard they worked don't alter the cost of having more retired people drawing pensions than working adults paying into the system.

Certain posters are falling over themselves in the rush to defend the capitalist work masters.

It is a sad reflection of how low these peoples self esteem has become that they feel they have to debase themselves before their paymasters.

Yet you seem to totally miss the fact that almost all pensions are linked to the stock exchange, so if capitalism fails then most pensioners and anyone soon to retire would be utterly bankrupt.

I would love to see the end of capitalism, but it's not that simple to just pull the rug, too many people would suffer too much, so unless you have a multi-staged plan for how we get from where we are to where we want to be without terribly hurting people then you are as bad as the people you accuse of pandering to the 'paymasters'.

Well I walked into that one..:)

But seriously most pensioners have worked hard and paid taxes for 40 or 50 years, as well as bringing up the next generation. And now a lot of them are helping out with the Grandkids, their own aged parents, voluntary work etc, so they're not exactly idle.

I also know quite a few who are still working because they say they can't afford to retire. I don't know how they do it, I'm exhausted at this age and simply couldn't work any longer.

I hate to use the old cliche, but you too will be old one day.

What's your solution for dealing with OAPs?

Mine is a one way trip to Switzerland - my pension will be laughable when I retire aged 86, others may vary.

However my main point was the fact most pensions are linked to the "evil" capitalists investment funds.

All young people think the same.

But don't forget, as a person you never grow old.

You are always yourself, it is just that you are surrounded by young people who think they know it all.

They think they are the first people to think the way they do, but there is nothing new under the Sun.

That is the way of the world, you may learn if you try.
