What was our Government thinking of, selling off our infrastructure?

As it was Maggie, probably to get rid of union influence and socialism, and also a way of raising money. I didn't realise until now that under her leadership over 50 companies were actually sold or privatised.

Also simple ideology: they don't believe in state ownership. They sort of have a point, as I mentioned earlier: governments are incompetent and cannot be trusted with essential utilities.

She did have a point though: the unions had got too big for their boots I believe,

Royal Mail has been totally hamstrung by the unions, doing things like preventing modernisation and use of computer systems, automated tracking & scanning. It's only recently they have started to get up to the same standards as the likes of DHL. This is what happens is state run industries, and without competition they fail to keep up to date with modern standards.

Did the Unions have anything to do with spending millions on trying to change one of the World's best known and respected brands into 'Consignia.?'

That sort of modernisation?

Whose bright idea was that...?

It was dreamed up by a consultancy company called Dragon Brands under the leadership of Keith Wells. But as the Unions didn't own the company why should they have been involved in the name change?

At the time post office group was wholly owned by one shareholder - HM Government (under a Labour administration).
