trastrick
If you've ever used the term, "Common or garden", you might be in that group that learned some very useful life skills growing up. As a working class boy, I learned how to cobble shoes and stitch leather (the cheap stuff we bought in sheets from the market), sew a hem, darn a sock, a little carpentry, (stools, sledges), metal work (sledge runners, pokers, toasting forks, toilet roll holders) soldering (loose wires in the wireless, spectacle frames) and a bunch of others, like gardening and cooking. Later on we did mechanics (bikes, motorcycle major repairs, valve jobs, re-corking clutches) Any others of note, and what practical skills do our kids actually learn today, if any??
