Take a look at the traffic from Sheffield Road towards Magna. 99% use the left lane as that is the correct lane to do so and is also signposted and stated. Unless I'm looking at the wrong junction the white car crossed over and caused the accident. They didn't realise they were in the wrong until it was too late, but they were still wrong. It's due to the markings on the roundabout being only for traffic on the roundabout. Needs a cross over line painting to make it clearer from Sheffield Road exit. If not from the area or unfamiliar with the road (or not taking notice of the approach markings) you would indeed assume you could cross over like the black car did. The lane markings are not at fault. They are clearly visible and delineate the lanes shown here: http://i.imgur.com/PLsthyh.jpg Multi-lane carriageways (rules 133 to 143) Lane discipline Rule 133 If you need to change lane, first use your mirrors and if necessary take a quick sideways glance to make sure you will not force another road user to change course or speed. When it is safe to do so, signal to indicate your intentions to other road users and when clear, move over. Rule 134 You should follow the signs and road markings and get into the lane as directed. In congested road conditions do not change lanes unnecessarily. Merging in turn is recommended but only if safe and appropriate when vehicles are travelling at a very low speed, e.g. when approaching road works or a road traffic incident. It is not recommended at high speed. The road markings before the junction appears to be confusing as they state M1N then go on to include R'Ham, but this does not overrule the highway code that clearly states you should only change lanes when you are sure its safe. The driver of the white car appears to be attempting to cross two lanes at once, without indication or concern for the other driver. Michael_N Posted May 18, 2017 Share Posted May 18, 2017 It was the same with the old B&Q Roundabout in Rotherham once R.M.B.C. changed the lane markings with the previously left only lane becoming left and straight ahead just like at Tinsley. Nonsense, the markings on the roundabout are clear. The markings on the approach to the roundabout are at odds with the roundabout markings, one of them has to be wrong. Michael_N Posted May 18, 2017 Share Posted May 18, 2017 The main reason for this mess is Sheffield City Council have changed the markings on the approach to the roundabout, yet either have failed to inform Highways Agency or Highways Agency can't be bothered to change the lanes on the roundabout its self.
