JNewton69
Try these: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/05/19/john-mcdonnell-apologises-praising-ira-claims-did-everything/ https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2003/may/30/northernireland.devolution http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/staggers/2015/09/what-did-jeremy-corbyn-s-new-shadow-chancellor-really-say-about-ira Seems pretty kosher to me. Have you got any links to The Sun? You seem to be derailing this thread.
TheNugget
Have you got any links to The Sun? You seem to be derailing this thread. Nah, I don't read that rag. I was simply adding some balance to the stories about the Tories containing ex-IRA members. The further links were to evidence the story that was disputed. The Sun contacted The Canary to request that we update the piece to reflect that The Sun went to print prior to the concert bombing. The paper issued an updated front page subsequently. We’re happy to do so.
Halibut
The later version of the front page - dead child 'pure'/alleged killer 'evil' could scarcely have been more crassly disrespectful.
TheNugget
You don't read it but you're happy to back it to the hilt? I didn't back it to the hilt, or even support it. I simply quoted part of The article that the OP posted which said that the paper was printed before the events unfolded. I'm sorry that the facts don't fit your narrative. Mister M
It is strange that the Sun should take such a high moral tone, when its sister paper, The News of The World gave false hope to Millie Dowler's parents by hacking into her mobile phone. And let's not forget the brutal treatment of those victims of the Hillsborough disaster. I suspect, if the polls are correct, and Theresa May wins the election, The Sun will suddenly become all modest and bashful, and be at the forefront of those claiming that newspapers have no influence over the way people vote. Which doesn't really explain why they are engaging in a character assassination against Jeremy Corbyn and members the Labour Party. Maybe the Labour Party have decided that they want to implement the Leveson proposals in full, and Theresa May has had recent meeting with Rupert Murdoch where she said she'll do no such thing. I just hope that the people of Manchester follow the lead of the people of Liverpool and boycott that nasty rag.
TheNugget
I further posted a link to a mainstream media source, in response to another post about links in the Tory party to the IRA. In response to your comments doubting the story, I posted a variety of links sourcing the quote. Again, I'm sorry that the facts are getting in the way. Guest makapaka
The sun, mail, express, telegraph prob even the mirror are just tools to try and shape people's views. Those intelligent enough to see through it will form their own view, those that aren't will ultimately vote on things that shape our society. It's a disgrace. Michael_W
This stuff just comes across as a typical bitter socialist censuring agenda ..... which many people can see straight through. I understand that many leftists don't like the Sun and the DM, there is a clear obsession on this forum too, however most people at this moment are just outraged by the incident itself in Manchester and not the style of reporting in newspapers. FWIW Corbyn and his 'non condemnation' of the IRA, is just one small contemptuous reason that many people will never vote for him or his party full of fluffy fools ! The real 'shameless scumbags' are the deplorable excrement in our society who sympathise with and harbour terrorists, as well as the vile terrorists themselves.
