The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

Pay attention to the punctuation. The sentence "But Tory MP Jack Lopresti, who spent two hours with company bosses, said they never mentioned once Brexit as a problem, and blamed France and Germany for trying to punish Britain." is written to give the impression that Airbus officials said France and Germany were trying to punish Britain but it's actually Lopresti who said that.

The Sunday Express trying to mislead its readers over brexit - what a surprise.

No i's not, it's you who is trying to mislead readers on both accounts.

You don’t know that because we have not had a response from Airbus to a briefing from a Brexit loving MP to a Brexit loving ‘newspaper’

Oh dear,

"The aerospace giant held talks with MPs and ministers on Thursday, discussing the possibility of receiving taxpayers’ cash and opening a new facility in the southern part of the UK.

Following the meeting, Airbus CEO Tom Williams issued a stark warning to the Government, saying as many as 14,000 British jobs could be at risk if the Brexit talks ended without a deal.

But Tory MP Jack Lopresti, who spent two hours with company bosses, said they never mentioned once Brexit as a problem, and blamed France and Germany for trying to punish Britain.

Mr Lopresti said during the meeting Airbus chiefs asked Business Minister Richard Harrington for Government funding and invited the Prime Minister to open their new ‘Wind of the Future’ facility at Filton, near Bristol."

Mr Lopresti, the Tory MP, said that, did he? What a shock.

Relax. It's going to be fine. Under Article 24 of the WTO’s General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade we have 10 years of free trade with the EU no matter what happens.

So just relax and breathe the free air.

Article 24 of the WTO General Agreement is about the FORMATION of trade unions, not the dissolution of them. Nice try though Car Boot.

It appears I can understand more than the pair of you,

"At no point was Brexit mentioned by Airbus. Airbus seem to be in a state of confusion about their position.

“One could be forgiven for thinking that some EU member state governments were using Airbus to try and influence the UK Government into giving them what they want in any future Brexit deal.

Constantly repeating the same thing from a heavily biased source does not make it true.

No, I think my understanding is correct. It's noticeable that your Gazette link, despite providing greater detail than the Express did, doesn't repeat its claim that Airbus representatives said France and Germany were trying to punish the UK.

Perhaps you could produce a statement from Airbus corroborating what the Express implies.

All of which are statements by the Brexit supporting MP - not Airbus representatives.

This is democracy in action.

There is nothing anti-democratic happening.

There were many Remain headbangers on yesterday's march carrying placards which stated 'Exit Brexit' and 'B******s to Brexit'. They want the voice of big business to be heard, but not the electorate.
