The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

Anyone who couldn't be bothered to vote has no right to complain after the event.

Don't be so stupid.

I could equally say that anyone dumb enough to be whipped up into a xenophobic frenzy by years of tabloid lies, fake news, facebook manipulation and the excitement of narrowly winning an advisory poll and thinks that the next day we can leave the EU, England will win the World Cup and the NHS will get £350 million a week has no right to complain when the whole idea turns out to be the complete disaster they were warned it would be before the vote.

How about the 16 or 17 year olds who were deemed not old enough to vote...they're going to be massively affected by Brexit..now thay are 18 shouldn't they have the right to complain?

We wouldn’t do it for a general election so why should we do it for the 16 or 17 yr olds now?

We will be having a re-run of the General Election in a couple of years.

The current crop of 16 and 17 year olds get their say then.

They won’t ever get a say on Brexit.

Still, never mind. Remoaners. Democracy etc etc zzzzz.

We should!

At 16 you can consent to have sex.

At 16 you can pay income tax.

At 16 you can pay NI contributions.

At 16 you can get married.

At 16 you can join the army as a soldier.

At 16 you can be charged with and convicted of murder.

At 16 you can apply for legal aid.

At 16 you can be imprisoned or sent to a detention centre.

At 16 you can rent a flat.

So why on earth can't you vote?

And those who weren't old enough to vote then might like a say on something as monumental as this. And dead people can't vote so you may well get a different result.

What am I saying, of course the result would be different. 60% to remain if there's another vote - easy you could use this argument for any election that's ever been. The voting age is 18 and until it's changed we have to except any result even if it's not what's wanted. And another referendum would not work unless we then had another one then another in other words a neverendum..

I really wouldn't worry: with the utter and absolute clusterf*** the government, and UK politicians generally, have made on the back of it, neither you nor those 16 year olds are likely to have another referendum, all advisory that they are, put to you by Parliament in your lifetimes! :D Edited by L00b

There’s an air of desperation now from Brexiters. It’s palpable.

Some of those things also apply to people under the age of 16.

But at 16 you cannot purchase a sharp implement, smoke, or use a sunbed in a tanning salon!

You DO know that the referendum was only ADVISORY, with no Parliamentary or Constitutional obligations attached, don't you?

It was advisory in the same way the 1975 referendum was advisory, and that vote kept us chained to the EU for over four decades...
