True cost of EU membership is £980 million per week

A new study on the true costs of EU membership, by leading City analyst Bob Lyddon, has been published and makes for extremely worrying reading.

The analysis takes into account the money paid directly to the EU budget, £267 million per week. Also included is:

The annual net cost of EU migrants (the majority employed in unskilled or semi-skilled low paid work) to the state once the tax they pay is deducted from the benefits they receive, which is £30 billion a year.

£12 billion a year is denied to the Exchequer through legal tax avoidance schemes which directly result from Britain being a member of the EU.

Extra payments include £2 billion a year given to the EU foreign aid budget (which are not officially designated as payments to Brussels).

The Express seems to be the one and only source of this info, like you, not overly reliable where facts are concerned :hihi:

Still, in context, less than passporting alone even with our EU subs removed.....

In Bob Lyddon's "The Global Britain" report, he does say we'll need a "a deep and comprehensive deal with the EU" for any chance of it being a success.

Even your guy knows we're reliant on the EU post Brexit.

His earlier report, published in The Express (:)) as "EU THREAT TO PENSIONS", was busted for some very shaky arithmetic and dubious assumptions:-

https://tabloidcorrections.wordpress.com/2017/02/27/the-shaky-analysis-that-led-the-express-to-claim-eu-migrants-cost-us-30-billion-a-year/

No doubt, in a couple of weeks, we'll be hearing the same about this one.

£12 billion a year is denied to the Exchequer through legal tax avoidance schemes which directly result from Britain being a member of the EU.

And how much is that offset by the legal tax avoidance schemes facilitated by the UK alone, as detailed this week in the Paradise Papers? I don't know, and neither does Bob. He could very well be entirely wrong! ;)

1 January 1973 - Catastrophe Day (UK joins the EEC/Common Market).

5 June 1975 - Deception Day (non-binding EEC/Common Market membership referendum).

23 June 2016 Brexit Day (non-binding EU membership referendum)

All those who voted to remain on this day did so to give the rich, the powerful and vested interests a pay rise with our money. The bankers, big business and the unelected EU bureaucratic elite raised a glass (or three) of Dom Perignon to thank the remainers for supporting the gravy train. I prefered to vote LEAVE to give the poorest and weakest in our society a well deserved pay rise.

When we joined as "the sick man of europe" ;)

Where the decision to join was validated by the voting public.

A notion looking more and more fanciful by the hour. The *real* deception day.... you're avoiding so many issues and having to lie so often... you're on the back foot.. and you know it! :)

Symbolic, May is desperate to cling on.... we can change our minds at any point... if "the deal" looks like a dog, there's a good chance we will ;)

If we do not leave the corrupt institution that is the EU, then democracy in this country will no longer exist. Consider the implications if this were to occur.

Have another referendum then when the deal is set. You arent frightened of losing are you?

There is no need for any other vote. The question asked was simply do you want to stay or leave, the majority said, leave. Period. We are not like Ireland who had to face a second vote because the first one gave the wrong answer. We are GREAT Britain, we are better than that.

Since you have not commented on my other points with regards to workers’ rights, I am assuming that you are confirming that you really have no idea in the issue.

See post 3224.

Now in good old SF tradition.. back up your claims to contradict the above.

You missed out 23rd June 2016 where the decision to leave was also validated by the voting public.

But we were lied to by both sides. The "£350m for our NHS" has been replaced with "we dont know, wait and see what happens". Well in a couple of years we'll find out exactly whats going to happen, how the US are likely going to try and milk us, what the divorce cost is going to be and how little of that £350m we are going to see.

We are not great britain any more. I keep asking this question - what are going to produce, how are going to fill the gaping hole in our finances once passporting rights go and thats just for starters.

Dont tell me, we'll wait and see.

Of course the real answer is the EU tried to protect workers rights but our government insisted on an opt-out which in effect meant employers could deny it to UK workers. Similar to Chinese steel imports - the EU tried to raise tariffs but our government blocked it.

A government minister was interviewed on the TV about the claim after that NHS chief mentioned it earlier this week. His reply was that that was a Leave.EU campaign promise not a government one and so had nothing to do with them. Which party contains most of the Leave.EU members again?

It's going to take us becoming the sick man of Europe again for some to realise that and even then many will a still blame it on the EU.
