The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

A referendum can't put us back in the EU. It would be up to the remaining EU members whether the UK are allowed back. If any application was accepted the UK would have to adopt the Euro and be part of the Schengen area. It would be ludicrous for the UK to rejoin on less favourable terms than when we left. The reality is the UK will never be part of the EU again.

Ludicrous would be expecting to rejoin on the same terms we had before we left - an error similar in magnitude to expecting to keep the same trading terms after we left under hard brexit.

If the UK becomes the sick man of Europe again rejoining is a definite prospect. All the people who voted leave remembering the 1950s through rose tinted spectacles would be dead. The current youngsters who feel cheated would be their age and remember a more prosperous UK within the EU (possibly through similar rose tinted specs).

That would be the fault of the current youngsters who were blinkered.

You are deluded if you think the UK will apply to join the EU again after all the long Brexit negotiations have been settled including what is looking more likely to be a huge exit bill agreed. The 1950's were just after the second World War which resulted in a huge financial burden for the country.

No reason why we cannot cooperate on issues; like agree a defence strategy, so that we can join forces and save money.

Even a 40 billion brexit bill is only 1.5% of UK annual GDP - it will be all but forgotten in 20 or 30 years time.

The 1950s were the decade of Macmillan's "never had it so good" speech.

We have NATO for that. The EU members with the exception of the UK haven't been paying their fair share for that.

Britain has played one its strongest cards in the EU negotiations by offering to put its defence, security and aid assets at the disposal of the European Union in the hope of getting concessions on future trading and economic relations.

There was still rationing in the 1950's. The UK had to get a massive loan from America to avoid bankruptcy.

.

Which we spent on trying to hold on to an empire and developing fast jets and nuclear weapons rather than rebuilding our infrastructure like France, Germany and the other recipients of it did.

Given you brexiters are so fond of the phrases "you can't prove that's going to happen" and "you can't predict the future" when people point out the likely effects of brexit together with your lack of criticism for the brexit departments desperate attempts to avoid releasing it's studies on the effects of brexit on the UK economy I thought you'd have more sympathy for a government not releasing documents that were at the time only predictions. ;)
