The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

For the benefit of the country and its young, it is best that they are discarded. They represent the past, not the future. And the future is what matters. They've done enough damage in their lives.

and what progressive age group are you in?

Did you just declare that voting leave was a vote for racism?

You're being ridiculous.

Which statements do you deny?

That old people die?

The demographics of the leave vote being that the elderly were more likely to vote leave and the young to vote stay?

So, it WAS a lie then. Because there isn't any money is there. In fact, we're already considerably worse off, and it's only getting worse.

No, I was replying to post 4128 where he basically called all elderly leave voters racist

And her hand hasn't been strengthened. Far from it. She has to rely on the DUP. The best thing that could be done for the country and the younger generation now is to abandon Brexit, face up to the tinpot little Englanders, and admit the costs and economic damage that will ensue simply isn't worth it, just to appease a bunch of elderly bigots who won't be here in 10 years time anyway. It will be a humiliating retreat, but it is one the Tories, through their own arrogance and putting party before country, will have inflicted upon themselves in the pursuit of short term political gain.

The UK democratically voted to leave the EU, so it is only correct the wishes of the people who voted to leave be carried out. The referendum result was a big surprise especially to the Tory Prime Minister, who called the referendum. It was made clear in the Tory manifesto in 2015 ,that there would be a EU referendum if the Tory Party won that election. The electorate didn't have to vote for the Tory party. If you live in a democratic country, which hold elections and referendums, then there is always a possibility surprise results occur. Calling people bigots because they voted a different way to yourself is pathetic.

It’s not correct if it is against the national interest, which Brexit very clearly is.

A democratically decision can be democratically overturned.

The ones who voted to leave need to have a good look at themselves and consider whether their selfishness in damaging future generations was appropriate.

so you feel that only the older ones that voted leave need to be discarded. pss60 seem that it all mature people that have ruined the country. Weird how many older mature people fought for democracy and you 2 want it thrown away. WOW

They'll have plenty enough time to reflect on their sins, while they're queueing years on end for elective surgeries that the country can't afford anymore ;)

Look, you aren't going to get a climb-down on Brexit before 2019, it is going to happen come what may. It is too late for it not to happen, the country would suffer probably just as much from not going ahead with it so late in the day, than from making the best of whatever it manages to salvage out of it.

So if you're not happy having your hard-earned cushioning the late or state-sponsored life of all those who voted for it, whilst May or Corbyn gets you further under the tax cosh and job insecurity (same difference between these two, and same outcomes for wage earners), vote with your earning power and ship out: job done, let those who voted for it and wanted it, manage it without you.

It's a fully personal and -in the UK which is still a free country the last time I checked- fully democratic choice, so Leavers don't get to complain about it, either. If anything, they should be grateful for that choice, it means less opposition at home for them.

They fought against the far right, not to have our country hijacked by it.

And no they don’t need to be discarded but they will gradually die off, and be replaced with younger voters with a different outlook. That is a fact.

These voters believed a pack of lies and have landed an £80 billion Brexit bill on future generations. Essentially, it was the pensioners at the end of their lives who wanted Brexit and few others. These are the tinpot Alf Garnetts of this world who refused to settle for the result of 1975 and believed the nonsense written on the side of a bus, but you can bet if there is another referendum in five or 10 years time the result will be different, especially as half the Brexiteers won't be around then.

The likelihood is - another referendum might well come sometime in the mid or late 2020s, when many of the foreigner-hating Colonel Blimps have gone. Of course the Brexiteers showed scant respect for the referendum of 1975.

Very few who fought in World War II are still alive. 98% of those who fought for our freedoms have now kicked the bucket. The overwhelming majority of elderly were young children during the war, or weren't even born then, but became the selfish I'm alright Jacks of the 1980s who denied opportunities to future generations of youth.
