The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

We have numerous layers of Government.

We need a international body to set international rules, we also need local councils that know what is going on in their own area. We also, in some areas, have parish councils, also regional councils; those that think things are simple, need to look at the bigger picture.

We have too many types of government.

The BBC needs to dust off Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister and run it opposite Fame Academy or whatever Cowell calls it this year.

If the EU is doing so well the 5 year majority will be a walkover don't you think. Or maybe we'd be looking at a very different EU now if the institution was kept on its toes like that, and maybe at least 66% would have voted to remain in 2016.
Except, the UK wouldn't, because if the UK was going to put its position within the EU on the line every 5 years, it wouldn't be let in in the first place.

This is pretty much why De Gaulle kept the UK out of it for so long. He could clearly see that the Brits were only interested in it for self-advantage and nothing else.

Based on your "5 year renewal interval" hypothesis, the UK would be Turkey, basically. Bespoke CU for bringing it a bit closer to the EU for limited mutual trading benefits, but at arm's lengths at all other times.

Which is where the UK is heading (back) now...Not a problem, is it?

So why did we have another referendum in 2016 if they accepted it ?

Because the public school educated Prime Minister David Cameron decided to hold another EU referendum as an exercise in pragmatic Tory party management.

This completely out of touch toff was, like most Remainers, shocked to find out after the referendum that more than half the country feels very differently to him on the subject of the EU.

Funny, I watched it yesterday, it was about a made up smear campaign against the EEC, branded in the papers as the "problem of the Euro-sausage".

They use it to put forward their views over increasing interference in British affairs. Hacker gives a passionate speech in defence of Britain against encroaching European regulations that in reality, don't exist!

Hacker is made PM, he places his hand into his suit imitating Napoleon.

That does sounds familiar considering recent events ;)

If you get more sensible with age, then why do conmen largely target pensioners and not 20- or 30-somethings.

Because they are the ones with money as most don't spend unnecessarily on designer clothes, expensive iPhones /phone contracts and dont p*** away their money on unnecessary designer crap. Its also common knowledge that most 20-30 year old's are also in debt unlike older people who may probably own a home, don't pay rent or CT get free prescriptions and maybe a TV licences as well.
