The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

Nicola Sturgeon appears bothered. She tweeted:

"The open, inclusive, civic, internationalist Scottish independence movement that I’m so proud to be part of could not be further removed from this insular, inward looking, blue passport-obsessed nonsense. Never has ‘stop the world, Scotland wants to get on’ felt more relevant."

Upset at the "blue passport-obsessed nonsense"... that's you, not the passport ;)

Still, the way things are going it may end up being one of the few things promised by leavers that will actually be delivered.

The EU strongly recommends that the passport format 'be uniform':

Since it's to be machine readable, this is entirely sensible. Again, as you are aware, all these are guidlines not dictates.

Croatia has a dark blue EU passport, it is the only EU member state that doesn't have a red passport.

Croatia doesn't want any modern association with the 'red' Communist dictatorship state of Yugoslavia and so uses a dark blue passport. The EU has let this slide for now.

LOL, grasping at straws, the passport colour was always optional. There is no "letting it slide".

TBH you seem to be more up in arms about it than most?

i haven't seen any outrage, you are just making this up

Indeed, except from Farage of-course :D

Why have so many Remainers expressed absolute outrage on social media about the change in passport colour if they consider it meaningless?

If something is entirely pointless why the many expletive filled rants?

It’s the despair at the stupidity of announcing it. It’s like throwing a tit bit to Brexiters who revel in nostalgia. And the ridiculous thing is that so many of them have said they don’t want to visit Europe anyway.

What next.....buying petrol in gallons?

Piers Morgan has tweeted:

'Imagine feeling genuinely enraged by the colour of a passport? Remoaners have lost their minds almost as insanely as anti-Trumpers. Calm down snowflakes! It’s Christmas.'

Merry Brexmas, God bless us everyone!

It's great to see Piers in a Brexit happy mood, the Metropolitan elite are going to have a great Christmas with all the trimmings, and more...........it'll trickle down though.

i believe it was the league of nations which compelled us to have blue passports back in the 1920's

ahh but the contract will have to be negotiated under EU government contract rules, so they may end up being produced in Europe.

and of course, once we are outside, travellers will have to join the long queue of non-eu citizens in the slow customs lane and not use the fast lane.

what i read it will be negotiated AFTER we've left? and we wont get blue ones until the december?

The trouble with our government negotiating, normally means it costs 3 times more than it should

The EU strongly recommends that the passport format 'be uniform':

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE UNIFORM PASSPORT

B. Passport cover (a) Colour : burgundy red.

(b) Information on the cover:

In the following order: - the words "European Community",

- name of the State issuing the passport,

- emblem of the State,

- the word "Passport".

The words "European Community" and the name of the State will be printed in similar typeface.

The cost of the new colour is the same as had we voted to Remain in the EU.

HM Passport Office is largely funded by user fees. We give them money when we need a passport, in return they give us a new passport. The UK passport had to be redesigned in 2019 anyway.

of course the EU recomend uniform colours, but thats not being forced, plenty kept their old passports, the hilarity i find currently is in the leavers rejoicing like its some big victory, when it was our government that changed it anyway even though they didnt have to

Only one EU member state was permitted to keep its old passport colour, Croatia. Not exactly 'plenty'. Do you ever do any research before posting? It's just an idea.

West Germany had a green passport until 1988. As did Eire. French passports up until the EU changed the rules were blue.

Croatia has been informed by the EU that it will have to 'update' it's passport colour to that of the EU burgundy the next time it redesigns it.

High profile Remainer James Caan CBE tweeted yesterday:

"A country that would spend £500m to change the colour of a passport while children sleep on the streets is a country whose priorities are wholly out of whack."

Oh dear. Yet another wealthy celebrity Remainer spreading false news. After being informed that there is no extra cost for the blue passports under their regular contract renewal (other than for inflation) Caan tweeted today:

"Good news. Having researched the cost of providing new passports it appears the £500m for the colour is fake news."

His source for the fake news? The Independent and The Guardian.

It seems to me that the people getting the most excited about blue passports are the hard-line Remainers.

The irony is so sweet, and very comical.

People, get a grip, it really doesn't matter what colour it is.

It seems to matter rather a lot to Brexiters.

Most remainers are simply commenting on the absurdity of that.
