RJRB
Sajid Javid. Voted remain, and now says Brexit means leaving the Customs Union. Another politician with an eye on his own political future. He claims that the Brexit vote meant leaving the Customs Union, which it didn’t. That’s just one interpretation and will no doubt be challenged in Parliament . Theresa May will do well to keep her own party on side ,never mind the rest of the electorate.

This is hilarious. Staying in the customs union then. Can’t default to WTO rules. Thank goodness for that.

How could parliament change a deal in Feb 2019, which has taken 2 years to achieve an agreement between the EU and the UK Government? Surely at that time there will be only two choices which are to support what the UK Government has negotiated with the EU or not support what has taken two years to negotiate, meaning the UK will leave the EU without a deal. March 2019 is the move to the transitional arrangement. The final date is intended to be Dec 2020. So they have lots longer to posture about impossible ways to leave the Customs Union whilst having (effectively) a customs union between Northern Ireland and Ireland, and having no different arrangements between the Great Britain and Northerm Ireland, and France and Ireland will be in the Customs Union, therefore England and France must have the same customs arrangements. Except that England is insisting on being able to make its own arrangements at the same time. And this is the easy bit. Then the penny may finally drop that the UK already has the optimal situation and that people have just been lied to by billionaire newspaper owners who want to avoid EU attempts to crack down on offshore tax avoidance. The Brexit deal or no deal will have to be concluded before the transitional arrangement from my understanding. The transition arrangement will start at the end of March 2019.
