The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Trying to Hogg the limelight?

"However, I will briefly address the one argument advanced by the Brexiteers to justify denying Parliament the decisive say on this country’s future. Their argument is that the referendum of June 2016 was decisive on this matter and requires the United Kingdom to leave the European Union, whatever the terms or in the absence of terms. I simply do not accept that argument. The electorate did not—indeed, could not—know the outcome of the negotiations. At the very best it was an interim decision."

Lord Hailsham, 30 April 2018.

We DID vote to Leave the EU. Unelected, unaccountable peers are now dictating to the voters that we should remain in the EU and that our votes in the referendum do not count because we were unaware of the outcome of future negotiations that hadn't taken place!

Common sense prevails ;)

We DID vote to Leave the EU.

Voters weren't asked what future relationship they wanted, it seems the majority want to be in the customs union and single market:-

That's based on responses from 216,787 voters!

No, they're not, they're giving parliament the choice of whether the deal is in the UK's best interests. They voted to give our *elected* representitives that choice.

This is entirely what you voted for in the referendum, it is entirely what "taking back control" means.

The British public should be given the choice of how we should proceed with Brexit if leavers are unable to deliver on the promises made as part of the referendum campaign.

Absolute nonsense. The Lords are behaving in an arrogant dishonest way whose motive is to prevent the democratic wishes the UK people voted for being carried out.

Nope, they're doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing by giving parliament the power to have the final say.

Parliamentry and Judical sovereignty were central pillars of the leave campaign.

Beyond leaving the EU in some form, no-one knows what the democratic wishes the UK population are with regard to our future relationship with the EU. They haven't been formally asked.

You can try to spin the situation until the cows comes home, but it wont change the fact that members of the Lords, Parliament and some Remain voters don't respect the democratic referendum result. It is not members of the Lords and members of Parliament who voted to leave the EU, who are causing our Government problems.

We are leaving the EU, this is about the terms of leaving. The referendum did not specify what form that should take.

Maybe we should have a referendum about it?

No, this governments problems are entirely of it's own making :hihi:

It's not the people who voted to leave the EU who are complaining about the Government's plans to leave the single market and the customs union. I hope we never have another referendum again about anything because too many people lack both the integrity and maturity to accept the results, which include both members of parliament and members of the house of Lords.
