The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

David Miliband, Nick Clegg and Nicky Morgan have joined forces to prevent a 'hard' Brexit (the UK actually leaving the EU). A 'soft' Brexit means the UK remaining in the EU.

Three well past their sell by date barmpots. As if anyone with more than one brain cell would believe a word they say.

You prove that you lack an credibility the moment you dismiss any argument without listening to them at all.

People who are at least educated to some degree would understand that you need to listen to all sides of the argument in order to achieve a reasoned opinion for either side.

I'm sure that ANGELFIRE1 did indeed listen to the arguments during the referendum campaign, before weighing up the pros and cons and arriving at the position now held.

Nothing since the referendum, the shrill bleating of the pampered rich included, has been plausible enough to change hearts and minds.

The establishment elite are certainly trying to ensure that there is no change to the economic and political status quo which has, for over forty long years, been deeply mired against the interests of the ordinary worker and in favour of the large multinational corporations and international finance capitalism.

A Brexit vote was a blow against the system. A system run not for the benefit of the many, but for the privileged few.

Yeah, that's why they had to start a thread to ask what the NI border issue was about a year after the vote

Prospects for a US-UK Free Trade Agreement

https://www.hks.harvard.edu/sites/default/files/centers/mrcbg/working.papers/USUK%20FTA%20516%20FINAL.pdf

Despite the enthusiasm expressed by politicians on both sides of the Atlantic, officials directly involved, and experts with experience of such negotiations, express scepticism that a deal of any significance can be achieved ...

We can summarise the prospects and potential benefits of a US-UK FTA [free trade agreement] across five dimensions – strategic interest; timeline and capacity; tariffs; non-tariff barriers and regulations; and politics and negotiability – as in table 1 below. The conclusion is clear: a US-UK FTA is only going to happen if the UK makes concessions that are unlikely to be politically acceptable and in any case, promises relatively limited upside for UK business. However, the importance of such a deal to the overall Brexit narrative (and specifically, to the case for leaving the customs union) means that the Government is likely to continue to behave as if negotiating an attractive deal with the US remains a realistic possibility.

... in essence, the UK won't benefit from free trade deal with US, say Harvard academics.

A 'soft' Brexit means that we will obey.

So does a hard Brexit, and chances are they'll have more punitive rules to follow as part of the promised trade deals than we already enjoy as part of the EU. Get ready for TTIP2.0.

Is that what we voted to achieve?

Beyond your rhetoric, it's clear you guys still have absolutely no idea what you voted to achieve.

Nothing has been emboldened by Brexit it's just government policy, and no nastiness unless you like the idea of illegal immigration
Really?

If it’s not nastiness, what’s it down to? Gross incompetence?

Or is it a case that such situations only ever happen to other people or those who deserve it?

Doesn't seem to be nastiness,

"The officers were calm and well-mannered throughout the course of the raid and the couple have no criticism of their conduct; they said they felt sorry for them, because they were just doing their jobs."

I wasn't talking about the foot soldiers. Unsurprisingly.
