Tomm06
So my car lease is coming to its close I current have a diesel. I do the mileage to warrant owning a diesel although I am moving jobs soon which means I will be travelling maybe 5-10 minutes less. However with everything going off with diesels this year is it worth buying one which could potentially be with me for the next 3/4 years? Annoyingly the cars I have been considering pretty much all come in diesel so I may not have a choice
geared
If you're only keeping it a few years it's not going to be an issue. Most new diesels are exempt from proposed legislation anyway so you are probably worrying over nothing.

Most new diesels are exempt from proposed legislation anyway so you are probably worrying over nothing. Traffic (25%), combustion and agriculture (22%), domestic fuel burning (20%), natural dust and salt (18%), and industrial activities (15%) are the main sources of particulate matter contributing to cities’ air pollution. So although traffic is the main cause, other causes also have a large effect.
alchresearch
It all depends what the road conditions are for the mileage you'd be doing. Mostly motorway and dual carriageway and you'll be fine. If its lower speed roads, not so. But,like geared said, any problems which will occur when running a diesel on local miles will only show up after you've got rid. andrejuan
........ponging black taxi cabs.............how do they get through the MOT? When they put them in for MOT they have proper Diesel in the tank, rest of the time it's home made from old cooking oil :hihi: That's why you occasionally see them at filling stations. geared
........ponging black taxi cabs.............how do they get through the MOT? The Emissions test for a diesel car hasn't actually changed for decades, so a brand new Euro 6 diesel car still takes the same test as the semi-agricultural beasts from the 1980's. Naturally if a car from the 80's can sail through the test it's barely even worth bothering on todays vehicles.

Isabelle
And those motor bikes that you barely see, but you can smell when they go past. If they are a 2-stroke, they do have a distinctive smell. I quite like it though. The few times I did ride mine my clothes, hair and rucksack smelled of 2 stroke oil for ages.
mossdog
And those motor bikes that you barely see, but you can smell when they go past...........don't know many bikes that run on diesel, like black cabs........if they run on Castrol 100R that's OK
