Jeffrey Shaw
most people living in the 13 colonies in 1776 didn't want there to be an independent country called the USA. True. If I recall correctly, the original name was the United Colonies of America.

Andbreathe
I'm very proud to count you as a forum friend, even if we never meet in real life - and the 4th is a day to celebrate everywhere, not just the USA, because it's an inspiration for liberation and freedom. The Lakota, Cheyenne, Sioux, Cree, Mohawk, Blackfeet. Entire native nations wiped out and discriminated against..even to this day a concerted effort by whites to subjugate and oppress. Liberation and freedom? For who? Did you know it's illegal still this day to practice Native American religion? Flies in the face of "Religious freedom for all". To this day the natives are a thorn in local and federal law. But yeah!! Nice fireworks...

But yeah!! Nice fireworks... You forgot to mention slavery, and the Native American Church (which isn't illegal last time I looked.) But don't worry, the message of celebration wasn't intended for you, but for our American members, you can take it any way you want. But thank you for not reiterating the tedious point that July 4th is a mostly arbitrary date.
