Cinema, volume for films

I recently went to the Odeon cinema in Sheffield to see the film Baby Driver, I can put up with people using their phones, eating and talking before the main feature, but the volume of the film ruins it for me, it`s too loud, I spent most of the film with my fingers in my ears trying to lessen the uncomfortable noise, is it just the Odeon? has anyone else noticed this?

Never seemed to have that problem in the old ABC/Odeon, had excellent sound systems probably using valve amps.

I believe some of the cine films way back had 3 channel sound.

For me the screens are so small these days you may as well watch TV at home.

I remember the old days of the Studio 5,6,7 when the volume used to get way too high, all that moaning.

I'm moderately deaf and have double hearing aids. I rarely need them in the cinema these days because of the volume levels.

I have the same problem, I take earplugs to reduce the volume.

The sound needs to be loud to drown out the sounds of people munching their way through large quantities of smelly food, buckets of pop-corn, rattley bags of sweets and slurping huge containers of Cola.
