susa41981
Hi Can anyone recommend a nice hotel to stay in somewhere near the Lake District for like a long weekend? As cheap as possible if I'm being honest but somewhere that's maybe got some nice scenery and walks close by. Any help would be great.
blake
the Lake District unlike the mere Peak District, Dartmoor, Exmoor, or the Pembrokeshire Coast, is now a World Heritage Site, so be careful where, and how, you take your long walks. You might tread on something unexpectedly historical.

Have a look here http://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/where-to-stay Cheap and Lake District aren't usually mentioned in the same tourist brochure. A B&B is probably a better bet. cgksheff
How about a Youth Hostel? Can't beat them for price. Only if you want to sleep with strangers in a bunkroom. Private rooms are expensive for 2.
Annie Bynnol
Try the coast. Barrow- easy access to Coniston, Windermere etc.(Travelodge £37) Millom area- estuaries, Black Coombe(views over Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Lancashire and even Yorkshire. Ravenglass area, NG railway, harbours, Wastwater etc St Bees and Whitehaven, harbours sea cliffs, Ennerdale, Buttermere etc. Workington and Cockermouth(Travelodge £39) for Keswick and North Lakes Easy connections between these by rail. alchresearch
AirBNB is the way to go. I stay at a great place in Ulverston and avoid the tourist trap and endless queues of traffic around Ambleside, and its great for exploring the coast and the little ferry over to Piel Island. http://www.pielisland.co.uk/ Google image search Duddon Estuary or Millom Estuary too. Or just on the outskirts is Grange Over Sands, Arnside and Silverdale. Beautiful places (an AONB place) and fantastic walks. This is perfect advice, the west part of Cumbria is a lot quieter to, the ratty railway is fab, you keep away from a lot of day trippers that way I am a West Cumbrian lad myself
