Acid attacks on the increase

That's fine until new evidence proves their innocence, then what?

With modern technology and advancements in criminal investigation, then the chances of someone later being found innocent are practically zero.

If there was ever to be another referendum in this country, then it should be about re-introducing the death penalty.

So what percentage would you estimate 'practically' to be then?

What if you were wrongly accused of something and they ended up putting you on death row and then they killed you with a lethal injection or strangled you to death with a rope....doesn't bear thinking about.

Well it's 100 percent they wouldn't ruin any other lives.

Yes I get that but for the practically zero percentage that are wrongfully accused and put to death that's of little consequence is it.

The death penalty has been wanted by a small portion for many years and during that time people have been banged up and released having been found innocent. Had they have been the victim of the death penalty there innocence has no meaning.

All the time there's a chance of getting it wrong the death penalty should remain off the table.

Why as its very clear that it is not a deterrent as if it was then no one would need to be hung.

I think it is somewhat of a deterrent to the vast majority of criminally inclined people.

not really.

if you are going to commit a crime you don't do it with the expectation of being caught and so the range of possible punishments is immaterial.

if it was a deterrent then states which killed people would have almost no capital crimes and that is obviously not the case
