Bollie
Hi, Around 1570, the time when Mary Queen of Scots was housed at Sheffield Castle and Manor Lodge, there was apparently a massive deer park attached to them. However, the areas the park covered are a bit confusing. Does anyone know, in today's locations, where the park actually was? Thanks in advance! Runningman
There is a pamphlet available from the shop at the Manor Lodge. Google - Sheffield ( Deer ) Park - SHEFFIELD PLACES - NOW GONE There is a load of information from the Sheffield History site. David Templeman, a Sheffield historian takes occasional guided walks along part of the route of the Deer Park boundary.
Grietje
Norfolk Park is a remnant of the deer park.
Kidorry
The deer park was one of the largest in England. It covered all Park Hill (hence the name) as far as Handsworth and Darnall.
Bollie
Brilliant, thanks folks. I had read that stretched as far as Handsworth to Gleadless then back to park square roundabout but I thought there's no way it could have been that big! I'll look up the Sheffield History site now, Thanks again!
