xsf7
When the market was there you didn't have much view of the Old Town Hall. The report in The Star is totally misleading too, as the area was run down from the late 80s long, long before the market was demolished. I expect there are many people in Sheffield who have never been down there, including "proper Sheffield" people born and bred. There's no reason to head down a side street with mostly derelict shops and a pub that looks like it hasn't opened in decades.
uberj89
Exchange st. has just a little tobacco cigar lottery shop run by real sheffielders and it closes at 2 PM, closed sunday. The tobacconists closes at 16:00 not 14:00, it used to close Thursday's and Sunday's, but according to google it is open Thursdays. it is surprising that it has survived the markets closure but on asking recently they are doing ok. dutch
Hopefully the redevelopment will make it a destination people want to go to. Go and have a look before making stupid comments. Because plenty of real Sheffield people go there often for that shop specialist products and services.

What I've said is it's a shame that this hidden gem has been neglected so long and hopefully once redeveloped more people will get down there. Waco Kid
William Moss and sons dug down thirty foot in 1960 while building the Castle Market. They found a dead dogs skeleton and a rusty chastity belt. No they didn't! Chastity belts never existed.

You are right redevelopment is important there. There are several hotels nearby who visitors first thing they see of Sheffield is castle market. ---------- Post added 01-08-2017 at 14:56 ---------- Reopening sheaf river is a great idea that could freshen things up around there. How can visitors see castle market when it has been demolished, and as far as I can remember, was never considered an attraction.
