retep
William Moss and sons dug down thirty foot in 1960 while building the Castle Market. They found a dead dogs skeleton and a rusty chastity belt. They didn't find a 1950's tanner there did they, I'm sure I lost one in the market, it was silver colour with a Queens head on one side.

Robin-H
Retep tha't having a laugh , The Queen 1950:hihi: In their defence they said 1950s - so the whole decade. That includes nearly 8 years when the Queen was the Queen - indeed the sixpence was redesigned in 1953 to include profile of the Queen...anyway.. jaffa1
I have lived in Sheffield off and on for twenty years and never been down to Exchange Street - it's like another city entirely. They should never have build the castle market. How can you say that if you have only lived in the city for twenty years , it was probably built well before you where born. Let's face it you don't really know the history of Sheffield. The Castle market was great when it was thriving.
Guest makapaka
The Castle and Sheaf Markets, Haymarket and waingate was busy right through the 80's early 90's. Loads of people shopped there. It wasn't upmarket but was busy.
